Be Best Friends with Google
I’ve always never believed in spoon feeding. It helps that even though my Dad is a teacher, he has never advocated the spoon feeding methods by our education system. In all my years, I’ve had to rely on either myself or friends who aid me when I’ve done all I can to solve a problem.
And that translates to what we have for today: Google. There’s just so many options for one to figure out a solution. Of course, there’s also a limit to how much you can get out of crowd sourcing, or getting misdirected information. That’s where expert opinions come in.
But what really, really irks me is this: people ask me for a solution, when they don’t even make an attempt to figure it out for themselves first. I remember seeing this comment from someone, when I asked why they never Googled for an answer first, “If I Google everything, where’s the human interaction? I’m giving you a chance to talk to me”. If that’s not a conceited answer, I don’t know what is.
No, the one thing that gets to me, is when I asked if they Googled, and they claimed yes. Within 10 seconds, I can Google for an answer. Of course, I try to verify if the answer is correct. And when I do, it makes me wonder how much effort is taken to even Google for an answer, or if they even tried to. I admit to being lazy, but I don’t let my laziness affect other people’s lives by making them find the answer for me. Following the “do unto others, what others do unto you” policy, I will rain hell on the person who doesn’t practice decent search queries before approaching me for an answer, even if you view me as an expert on the matter.

AMEN!
