Sort of a precursor to what we’ll get in Singapore, a trip to Macau was made over the weekend I was in Hong Kong.
What can you do in Macau?
Why of course, gambling! Slots machine, Blackjack and Roulette. Starting bid for Blackjack started at HK$100 over at MGM Grand. Now, seriously, would I splurge around S$20 per hand to play Blackjack?
Yeah, fact is, I didn’t. Way too much. We ended up at the Grand Lisboa, which is around HK$50 per hand. Well, 50% discount in terms of winning, but hey, at least your balls don’t shrink during every hand.
Sadly, no winnings. I was on a streak, winning around S$100 at one point, but as every gambler knows, greed gets the better of you. Ended up losing S$20 by the time we got out of the place. However, an interesting conversation happened with the dealer and her colleague that went like this (in Cantonese):
Dealer: Hmm, bust again.
Colleague: Yeah, pay money again.
Dealer: Yeah, good. Bust, no need to think too much. It’s either I pay or don’t pay, no need to check who lost, who won, or who tied.
I’m not that good in Cantonese, but that conversation caught me by surprise. And there was this Korean dude beside me who spoke English, and I relayed that message to him, and we were like…
Hur hur hur!
Well, Macau wasn’t just about gambling. We had to utilize the day there, so we ended up with more food over here:
And of course, it’s authentic Hong Kong food once more, with the following:
Roast meat. Yes, again. I think I ate at least one roast meat dish per day when I was there. For five days. Seriously, you can’t get this kind of succulent roast meat back in Singapore.
Ah yes, the all time favorite: shrimp wanton mee! Shrimp wanton that comes in the size of my fist. I exaggerate, but you get the idea. It’s huge. Similar to roast meat, I think I’ve had this for almost every single day.
